Community Impact

The Hospital

UNC Health Southeastern is the only community-based hospital in North Carolina offering access to comprehensive Addiction Medicine services through collaboration with a service such asBreeches Buoy Addiction Medicine Service. This model for providing expert care to patients affected by substance use disorder can be replicated and made available to other communities severely impacted by substance use disorder throughout our state and beyond. 

The Judicial System

Participants in the judicial system are afforded the opportunity to access treatment for substance use disorder as part of the process of rehabilitation. Breeches Buoy Addiction Medicine Service collaboration with the SAFE program has assisted participants with access to evidence-based treatment during the judicial process.

Community Education

Breeches Buoy Addiction Medicine Service provides education for community organizations interested in learning more about substance use disorder. Our supervising physician provides in person education to interested groups upon request.  

The Health Department

Breeches Buoy Addiction Medicine Service provides on site support to the Health Department to provide clinical assessments for patients at risk for poor health outcomes secondary to substance use disorder. This preventative medicine helps decrease the risk of progression of the disease of addiction.

How to Get Help

Patients are currently referred to Breeches Buoy Addiction Medicine Service through one of our community partners.
